What is an Ignition Interlock Device (IID)?
- A breath tester wired to the ignition that stops the engine from starting until you blow clean — correct answer
- A device that limits the vehicle's top speed after a DUI

Why
An IID is a breath tester wired to the ignition: the engine will not start until you blow clean. It is often required for six months to drive again after a first DUI. California's statewide IID programme was extended through January 1, 2033 by AB 366.
