⚠️ First Rain Caution

• The first rain after a dry spell makes roads especially slick due to built-up oil — slow down considerably.

🧽 Wipers and Defrosters

• Ensure wiper blades are in good condition — streaks impair visibility.
• Use intermittent or low/high wiper settings as needed.
• Turn on your defroster to prevent interior window fogging caused by rain humidity.

👀 Visibility

• If rain becomes very heavy, slow to a crawl or pull over if you can’t see.
• On highways, use hazard lights if moving slowly, but ideally exit the road to wait it out.

🌊 Avoid Hydroplaning

• Avoid deep puddles or slow down before hitting them.
• Try to drive in the tracks of the vehicle ahead — they’ve displaced water.
• If you start hydroplaning:
  • Ease off the gas
  • Don’t brake hard
  • Steer straight until traction returns

🚫 Deep Water Dangers

• Never drive through water covering the roadway if:
  • It’s moving
  • You can’t gauge depth
• As little as 6 inches of water can stall your engine
• 12 inches can float a small car
• Find another route if uncertain.

🛞 After Rain

• Roads may remain slippery until fully dry — don’t assume it’s safe to speed just because the rain stopped.
