Topic 3 · Rules of the Road: Traffic Laws in California
Passing on the right is allowed when:
- The vehicle ahead is going below the speed limit
- You are in a hurry and the shoulder is paved
- The open highway has two or more lanes in your direction, or the driver ahead is turning left — correct answer
Why
Those are the cases; the shoulder is never one of them. (Section 6, How to Pass.)
Practise this in the real format
Reading one answer is not the same as sitting the test. The simulator runs the first-time adult form: 36 questions, 6 mistakes allowed, 83% to pass.
