What is the 'Three-Second Rule'?
- The time you have to signal before turning
- The minimum safe following distance under ideal conditions — correct answer
- How long you can drive in the left lane
Why
Pick a fixed object ahead; if you reach it less than three seconds after the car in front does, you are too close. Three seconds is the minimum under ideal conditions — add more in rain, at night or behind a large vehicle. (Handbook, Section 8 — Tailgating.)
Practise this in the real format
Reading one answer is not the same as sitting the test. The simulator runs the first-time adult form: 36 questions, 6 mistakes allowed, 83% to pass.
