Insurance Claims

📞 Notify Your Insurance

  • Contact your insurance company as soon as possible after the accident – ideally within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Most policies require prompt reporting, even if you’re not at fault.

🧾 Be Honest and Detailed

  • Provide a clear, truthful account of what happened.
  • An adjuster will be assigned to your case to investigate.

⚠️ If You Were at Fault

  • Your liability coverage pays for the other party’s damages (up to your policy limits).
  • You may need to give a recorded statement describing the incident.

âś… If the Other Driver Was at Fault

  • Their insurance should pay for your damages.
  • You might still use your own:
    • đźš™ Collision coverage (to fix your vehicle, minus deductible)
    • đź’Š Medical payments coverage (for injuries)

🔄 Your insurer may then subrogate – recover the money from the other driver’s insurer.

❌ If the Other Driver Has No Insurance

  • If you have Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) coverage:
    • Your injury damages are covered up to those limits.
  • Note: UM does not cover vehicle damage unless:
    • You have UMPD (Uninsured Motorist Property Damage), or
    • You use your collision coverage.

📸 Be Ready with Documentation

You’ll likely need to provide:

  • Police report (if available)
  • Photos of the damage or scene
  • Witness contact info
  • Any medical or repair bills

📝 Tip: Stay in touch with your adjuster and keep records of all communication.
