On open country roads or dark city streets at night you should use:
- Parking lights when there is no traffic
- High-beam headlights, dimming them for oncoming vehicles — correct answer
- Low beams at all times
Why
Use the high beams where they are legal, make sure you can stop within the distance they light, and dim them so you do not blind an oncoming driver. (Section 8, Darkness.)
Practise this in the real format
Reading one answer is not the same as sitting the test. The simulator runs the first-time adult form: 36 questions, 6 mistakes allowed, 83% to pass.
