When must a physician report a patient to the DMV?
- Never — medical records are always confidential
- Only when the patient already holds a driver's license
- When a patient at least 14 years old has a condition such as a lapse of consciousness — correct answer
Why
Physicians are required to report patients who are at least 14 years old to the DMV for medical conditions that may affect their ability to drive safely, such as a lapse of consciousness. (Handbook, Section 5.)
