Vehicles in Trouble on the Road

When encountering vehicles in distress, it’s important to respond with caution and courtesy to keep everyone safe.

🚨 Broken-Down or Hazard-Lighted Vehicles

• Slow down and pass carefully
• Assume:
  • The vehicle might re-enter traffic suddenly
  • Someone might be walking around the vehicle
• If safe, change lanes away from the vehicle — similar to the Move-Over Law

🔧 Tire Changes

• If someone is changing a tire at the roadside, give them plenty of space
• Move over to another lane if it’s safe

🧱 Road Obstructions

• If an object (e.g., ladder, box) is on the road:
  • Avoid it safely if possible
  • If the object is large or dangerous, report it:
    • Call CHP or 911
