Topic 3 · Rules of the Road: Traffic Laws in California
The light turns green but traffic is backed up on the far side of the intersection. You should:
- Enter, since a green light gives you the right-of-way
- Enter the intersection and wait there for space to open
- Wait, because you must not enter unless you can get completely across before the light turns red — correct answer
Why
Green means go only if you have room. Blocking an intersection is against the law, and you must not enter unless you can clear it before the light turns red. (Section 7, Traffic Signals and Intersections.)
