Double solid white lines mean:
- A barrier between a regular lane and a preferential lane, and you must never change lanes across them — correct answer
- Two lanes are merging into one
- The lane on the left is closed ahead
Why
Double solid white lines separate a regular use lane from a preferential one such as an HOV lane, and also appear near freeway ramps. Wait for a single broken white line to change lanes. (Section 6, Lane Markings.)
Practise this in the real format
Reading one answer is not the same as sitting the test. The simulator runs the first-time adult form: 36 questions, 6 mistakes allowed, 83% to pass.
