Topic 3 · Rules of the Road: Traffic Laws in California
You may cross double solid yellow lines to:
- Turn left into a driveway or private road, or make a U-turn across a single set of them — correct answer
- Move into any lane when traffic is heavy
- Pass a slow vehicle if the road ahead is clear
Why
The exceptions are: an HOV lane with an entrance on the left, construction signs sending you to the other side, and turning left or making a U-turn across a single set to enter or exit a driveway or private road. (Section 6, Lane Markings.)
