Topic 3 · Rules of the Road: Traffic Laws in California
An officer asks permission to search your vehicle. You:
- May clearly decline, though the officer may still have legal authority to search — correct answer
- Must consent, because refusing is an offense
- May refuse and physically prevent the search
Why
You have the right to say no and should say it clearly, but if the officer proceeds anyway you have no right to interfere. (Section 6, Your Rights During the Enforcement Stop.)
Practise this in the real format
Reading one answer is not the same as sitting the test. The simulator runs the first-time adult form: 36 questions, 6 mistakes allowed, 83% to pass.
